Please join us for a Reuters Newsmaker featuring IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva

Now in her second term as Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Georgieva plays a leading role in shaping the global economy, meeting frequently with central bankers and finance ministers from around the world and often speaking bluntly about issues ranging from surging debt levels to artificial intelligence and a proliferation of trade barriers.

In her first major interview after the inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump, Georgieva speaks with Reuters White House Correspondent Andrea Shalal about the challenges facing the global economy at a time when a new global trade war is fueling market uncertainty, driving up the price of gold, threatening a fresh wave of inflation and dampening already lacklustre global growth prospects. The interview comes weeks before the IMF releases an update to its outlook for the global economy at the spring meetings of the IMF and the World Bank in Washington. In January, it predicted global growth of 3.3% in 2025 and 2026, below the historical average, and warned that unilateral tariffs could leave "every country worse off".
