One of the largest and most influential private philanthropic organizations in the world, the Gates Foundation has been working to reduce extreme poverty and improve global health for a quarter of a century. The foundation’s Goalkeepers event, held annually as world leaders gather in New York for the UN General Assembly, is this year focused on significantly reducing preventable child deaths globally.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has received the Global Goalkeeper Award for Spain’s increased support for global health, expanded development aid, and push for inclusive multilateral reform - efforts that the foundation believes stand out as some countries retreat from such commitments.

Gates and Sanchez will sit down with Reuters Editor-in-Chief Alessandra Galloni to discuss the pivotal opportunity global leaders have to either proceed with proposed aid cuts or take bold action to save millions more children's lives by 2045, including the importance of innovation and the role of institutions like the Global Fund in helping countries make effective, sustainable health decisions.
