Kyungyeol Song is the Chief Operating Officer at PassKey Inc., an SK Group company based in New York that builds businesses to support the transition to clean energy. Mr. Song has spent a career leading global teams and exploring new technologies and business models in the energy industry.
As PassKey COO, Mr. Song leads development and investment in businesses that can help make clean energy in the U.S. more reliable, convenient and affordable. A major focus is integrating technologies, such as energy storage solutions, electric vehicle charging and artificial intelligence (AI), to create new solutions that enable broader use of clean energy sources.
In previous roles at SK, Mr. Song led a task force for SK E&S, one of South Korea’s largest energy companies, aimed at finding new growth opportunities in the energy industry. He also was Senior Vice President for Energy Solutions for SK’s SUPEX Council, where he worked across SK Group companies on energy investments and partnerships. Mr. Song has been with SK Group companies since 2019.
Prior to SK, Mr. Song was Director of the Energy Center for McKinsey & Co., where he worked with senior leadership at global energy companies on growth strategies, investment decisions and mergers & acquisitions. He also was leader of McKinsey’s Global Cleantech Practice.
PassKey is a subsidiary of SK E&S and part of SK Group, South Korea’s second-largest conglomerate. PassKey’s investment portfolio includes Key Capture Energy, a New York-based grid-scale energy storage solutions company, and EverCharge, a California-based provider of charging solutions for electric vehicles. Mr. Song is a board member of Key Capture and EverCharge as well as Plug Power, an investment of SK E&S and SK Inc.
Mr. Song has a Ph.D. in aeronautics and astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He earned a B.S. and M.S. in aerospace engineering from Seoul National University.
